The success of the Encore Musical Theatre continues to grow with the upcoming production of "Little Shop of Horrors."The rock musical composed by Alan Menken and written by Howard Ashman promises to be the theater's most ambitious show yet.
The musical is based on the 1960 film "The Little Shop of Horrors," directed by Roger Corman and written by Charles Griffith. The musical was adapted for the big screen in 1980 starring Rick Moranis as main character Seymour Krelborn.
What sets "Little Shop" apart from previous shows "Guys and Dolls" and "Evita!" is the famous Audrey II puppet that brings to life the malevolent alien singing plant that starts out as a beacon of hope for the misfit cast of skid-row denizens.
"We want the puppet to be amazing," said Director Barb Cullen. "Actually there are four of them."The set of puppets are provided by distributor Monkey Boy Puppet. The set includes the "baby" plant which is small enough to fit into a pot. The second puppet sits on the floor and is nearly man-sized.
